Former Queen Mother Ratna Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah has been admitted at Thapathali-based Norvic International Hospital on Thursday. She was hospitalized after she complained of abdominal pain.

Former Queen mother, 88, was admitted to the hospital at 8 am today after she complained of abdominal pains since last night.

A team of doctors led by senior physician Madhu Ghimire has been attending to Ratna. Her condition is not critical as she does not have other problems except abdominal pain, according to the doctors. She is getting better.

Ratna is currently undergoing colonoscopy and endoscopy tests, said a hospital source. She is likely to be discharged by this evening.

Royal family members including former King Gyandra Shah, former Queen Komal and former Crown Princess Himani visited the hospital.

Born on 19 August 1928, Shah was Queen consort of Nepal from 1955 to 1972 and Queen Mother from 1972 to 2008 when the royal family was stripped of all titles and privileges.

She is the second wife of Late King Mahendra of Nepal (1920–1972).
